Twenty years ago, on May 9, 2004, the leader of Chechnya, Akhmad Kadyrov, was killed in a terrorist attack on a stadium in Grozny. Almost immediately after that, his son, Ramzan, took over the leadership of the republic with the Kremlin's approval, according to Meduza.
