Growing Concerns: Pruning is an art that takes time to master

Summary by The London Free Press
A question I get asked often is when do I prune. The easiest way to remember is prune flowering shrubs within 10 days to three weeks after they finish flowering. Forsythia, the yellow bush that is in bloom now, should be pruned by the end of May. As for something like rose of Sharon, you can prune them now as they flower on new growth in the fall.
