Political consultant behind fake Biden robocalls says he was trying to highlight need for AI rules

An AI-generated deepfake recording of Joe Biden was created by magician Paul Carpenter, leading to a criminal investigation and a ban on AI voices in robocalls by the FCC.
Carpenter claimed he was hired by Democratic political consultant Steve Kramer to make the recording, which cost only $1 to create using ElevenLabs software.
