New Schengen rules: States may close borders when "instrumentalising" migration

The European Parliament has adopted updates to the rules for the passport-free Schengen area, including the introduction of border restrictions in the event of 'instrumentalisation', i.e. facilitating the entry of irregular migrants into the EU by third parties.
