Variants in gene BSN, or Bassoon, were linked to a higher risk of diabetes and fatty liver disease, affecting approximately 1 in 6,500 adults.
The research was conducted using data from over 500,000 individuals by scientists from the Medical Research Council at the University of Cambridge.
