The remainder of the Hualien earthquake is unfinished.

Following the 7.2-magnitude earthquake on April 3 in the vicinity of Hualien, as of about 10 a.m. on April 29, there were 1,332 remaining earthquakes, of which 64 were of magnitude 5 to 6 and 5 of magnitude 6 or more. The former Director of Meteorology, Mr. Cheng Ming-ten, noted that the decay characteristics of the remaining earthquakes were that the longer the time away from the main quake, the smaller the magnitude and the smaller the number.
